A fictitious address near Paddington Station in London. It is the home of the Brown family.
Fictive Address[]
Described as a large semi-detached house with a garden at the back. It is a short walk from Portobello Road, which includes Gruber's Antique Store and the street market where Paddington Brown becomes a regular customer.
The "real" Windsor Gardens[]
A Windsor Gardens does actually exist but it apparently has no connection with the Browns’ address which is said to have been wholly imaginary. The real Windsor Gardens is a tiny and rather unappealing cul-de-sac off Harrow Road, between Notting Hill and Maida Vale. No. 32 does not exist.
The street is a small cul-de-sac leading to a medical centre with a block of low rise Sixties council housing on one side and a wall of the Windsor Castle Pub on the other.
The address was inspired by the fact that Michael Bond lived in Arundel Gardens and his parents lived in Winser Drive. The real Windsor Gardens doesn’t look anything like the one as described in the books which, in Bond's mind, was slightly further south – possibly Westbourne Grove.[1]
