Peru is a country in South America. Its capital is Lima. Darkest Peru is a fictional area of Peru with very high mountains and deep jungle. It is presumed that if Darkest Peru were a real place, it would be located in Eastern Peru, which contains some of the Amazonian Rainforest.
The only bear native to Peru is the Andean Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus), so it is often assumed that this is Paddington's species. However, in the first Paddington movie, the plaque under the soon-to-be enclosure for Paddington was labeled Ursus marmaladus. But don't forget, Paddington is a fictional character, invented for children by Michael Bond, published on October 13, 1958.
Geography[]
Darkest Peru is alleged to be in several places in Peru. One of these places is in eastern Cusco, in the province of Urubamba. There is a national park there, which surrounds the Inca site of Machu Picchu, and the population of Spectacled Bears is concentrated in this area.
History[]
Paddington was dramatically rescued by Lucy and Pastuzo, after they spot him adrift on a log on a river, over which they were having tea and marmalade sandwiches.
