Paddington Bear Wiki

Hunter Cabot is the former secondary antagonist and deuteragonist of Paddington in Peru. He is the captain of a ship in the Amazonas and the father of Gina Cabot.

He is played by Antonio Banderas.

History[]

Hunter Cabot is a descendant of Gonzalo Caboto[1], who became obsessed with the legend of El Dorado (City of Gold) and died in pursuit of it. Gonzalo passed his greed to his descendants who all followed the same fate. This means Hunter has a hereditary disease el oro loco (gold madness).

Hunter had a daughter Gina, but her mother died when Gina was young. Hunter was determined to beat the curse/madness for Gina's sake, but he heard about Rumi Rock when Gina was four years old and left her in pursuit of it and El Dorado. Gina stayed with extended family until she was nineteen and Hunter returned. The ghosts of his ancestors manifest the most in the Amazonian jungle. Hunter promised that he would stay away from the jungle and would prioritise Gina above gold.

When Hunter and Gina meet Paddington and the Browns, they offer to transport them. The Browns show Hunter and Gina the bracelet from Aunt Lucy, which Hunter identifies as hiding an encoded message that will lead to El Dorado. When Gina finds out their destination is Rumi Rock, she insists that they turn back. However, Hunter tricks Gina and strands her on the river bank, continuing on to Rumi Rock until he is knocked off the boat.

Hunter finds Paddington at Rumi Rock and tells him that the bracelet's message is 'the bear will show the way'. Paddington does not know what the message means, but he decides to follow distant roars that he believes to be Aunt Lucy, responding back to his roars. Believing the bear in the message to be Paddington, Hunter accompanies Paddington while being haunted by hallucinations of his ancestors.

When they reach the source of the distant roars, they find stone ruins with a solid rock face that echoes Paddington's roars. Hunter chases Paddington around the ruins in an attempt to get the bracelet, which he believes can give him access to a hidden passage to El Dorado. The Browns, Gina and the Reverend Mother arrive at the ruins. The Reverend Mother reveals herself to be Clarissa Cabot, Hunter's cousin also affected by el oro loco. She threatens Gina but Hunter saves her, rejecting the curse and leaving with Gina.

Appearance[]

Hunter is a very handsome man. Mary Brown clearly finds him handsome, which annoys her husband Henry Brown. He has a tattoo which all members of the Cabot family have.
