The London Underground is a train system that links the central areas of London. It is also known as "the Tube". It is one of the most popular forms of transport in London.
Layout[]
The Tube is categorized into nine different travel zones. Zone One services Central London and zones six to nine extend to the areas on the outskirts of London. There are eleven Tube lines, along with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), London Overground line and an interconnected local train network.[1]
Paddington[]
The London Underground features in both the Paddington books and films.
The London Underground is the setting in the third chapter of A Bear Called Paddington, called Paddington Goes Underground.
In Paddington (2014), the Tube features when Mary tries to secretly take Paddington to Gruber's Antiques for the first time. While inspired by the chapter from A Bear Called Paddington, the writers took some creative liberties, which resulted in some delightful moments. Paddington loses the Browns and tries to navigate the rules of the Underground by himself. However, his misinterpretations result in a fall down the escalator and an angry dog owner, who appears later in the film.
