Paddington celebrates his birthday twice every year. When he was found, Paddington wasn’t too sure how old he was so the Browns decided to start again at one. They also decided that he should have two birthdays a year (just like the Queen!) and so he celebrates these on 25th June and 25th December.[1]

History[]

Paddington's birthday is first mentioned in A Disappearing Trick, the final chapter of A Bear Called Paddington (1958). Paddington does not know how old he was, so they decided to start again and call him one. Paddington later learns that bears have "two birthdays every year -- one in the summer and one in the winter," which is just like the Queen, as Mrs. Bird tells him.[2] He feels very important to have two birthdays each year, and is very proud of the fact. Mrs. Bird throws Paddington his first birthday party in London.
