Paddington the Babysitter is the 115th episode of the series The Adventures of Paddington Bear that aired on February 2, 2000. Its sister episodes are Paddington on the Orient Express and Paddington and the Frog of Doom.
Synopsis[]
Mr. Curry's Niece's Daughter boasts that Paddington will take care of her. His boasting will force him to take care of the child. Paddington Bear comes to the rescue, but he has two babies he has to take care of.
Summary[]
Mr. Curry plays with his baby grandniece, Maxine. He claims that babies love him, but she starts crying when Curry tickles her. His older niece Shelia asks him to keep eye of her daughter as she leaves.
Mr. Curry asks for Paddington's help as Maxine keeps crying. He asks Paddington what his Aunt Lucy did when Paddington cried, which he answers that she licked him. Paddington fetches a book about babies and soon, they smell her. Mr. Curry is shocked that he has to change the baby, as he never changed one in his life. He gets the supplies and because the book says they have to practice on someone first, Curry places a diaper on himself. Mrs. Bird comes over with baby toys, and sees Mr. Curry's diaper.
After she leaves, Mr. Curry puts on the diaper, but Paddington shows him the diaper changing kit which makes it easier. Paddington says that Maxine may be thirsty after all that crying. Mr. Curry heats up Maxine's milk but it is too hot on his finger, so he puts it in cold water. Afterwards, when he pats on her back, she spits out the milk and leaves a mess on Mr. Curry's back, and she cries again. Paddington reads about a bath, so Mr. Curry gets one set up as Paddington gets some toys, and Mrs. Bird comes back with lunch and finds Curry in the bath with the baby. Shelia comes back and thanks Mr. Curry when she sees him sleeping with Maxine. Curry claims that he could help Maxine anytime, which Shelia is pleased to hear as she wants him to take care of her all week long when she leaves for a holiday.

- The Baby Kate crying sound effect used for Maxine is a stock sound effect normally used in other cartoons such as Arthur, which was also produced by CINAR, rather than her normal voice actress.
- This episode marks the first appearance of Mr. Curry's niece.
