Judy Brown

Judy Brown is the daughter and oldest child of Mary Brown and Henry Brown, the older sister of Jonathan Brown, and the foster older sister of Paddington.

Judy is one of the main characters in the Paddington books and movies.

She is portrayed by Madeleine Harris in the Paddington films. i love judy brown

Judy has long brown hair and bright blue eyes. She usually wears her hair in a fishtail braid.

In the first film, she is usually wearing her school uniform (pictured right) which is a grey cardigan over a white collared shirt with a navy, maroon, sky blue and white tie. The uniform also includes a grey and red tartan skirt, grey stockings and black lace-up shoes. Her other clothes are usually flannels or hoodies over t-shirts paired with leggings. Her clothes are predominantly black and grey.

In A Bear Called Paddington, Paddington describes Judy as 'a little girl, with laughing blue eyes and long, fair hair'.

Judy is a sassy teenager who loves listening to chinese music. She can be slightly bossy to Paddington at times.

In the first movie, Judy and Jonathan have just moved to a new school. Judy is trying her best to fit in, but she is still feeling out of place and she fears that the other students think that she and Jonathan are weird. She tells Jonathan not to tell anybody at school about Paddington because she doesn’t want to give her classmates any more reasons for them to think they are weird. She is also dating Tony from her class, but is too ashamed of her family to introduce them. When Paddington stops Andre the Thief outside Judy's classroom, he waves to Judy, prompting Tony to call Paddington 'awesome' and ask Judy if she knows the bear. After this incident she shows more compassion and empathy towards Paddington, as they can relate to each other, since they are both having difficulty adapting to different environments.

During the montage scenes of the first film, it is revealed that Judy has a strong affinity for languages—she is learning Chinese and Bear—and has a dream of running away to start a small business.

In Paddington 2, Judy is more sure of her identity and her place in the world. She and Tony have broken up, and she claims to now hate men as a reaction to this. She also reacts by working on a new project: starting a local newspaper with 'no boys'. She is confident enough to organise an interview with Phoenix Buchanan's agent Felicity, which is a scheme to trick Phoenix later.

Though in Paddington in Peru, Judy is having a shower and singing until Paddington enters the bathroom and interrupts her. This scene is a resemblance to the 1992 film Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

In A Bear Called Paddington, Judy is very friendly towards Paddington from the beginning and is the one who suggests keeping Paddington. She shows that she is responsible after Paddington's mishaps in the bathroom when she starts cleaning up and giving Paddington a towel with which to dry himself. When the station inspector threatens Paddington for disobeying the law, Judy exploits the loophole that the law does not include bears, therefore Paddington is exempt. In summary, Judy is friendly, practical and resourceful.

Abilities[]

Languages: Judy is proficient in Chinese (for business) and Bear (courtesy of Paddington). She picks up languages quickly, as portrayed in the first Paddington film.
Manipulation: Judy exploits the technicalities of the law when she prevents Paddington getting arrested in Paddington Goes Underground. In Paddington 2, she manages to get all the quotes she needs from Felicity in order to stage a fake phone call to force Phoenix out of his house.
Journalism: Judy runs a successful local newspaper by herself, called The Portobello Express, which means she is proficient in reporting, editing and layout, and operating the printing press.
